Probably the best Western "movie" I have ever watched, besides Dancing with Wolves. More realistic, but also wonderfully modern with the emphasis on women defending their families and town. The horseback riding was especially good, especially that done by the actor playing Roy Goode. But all actors were better horse people than in most films of this genre. A lot of pathos, some funny moments, and some wisdom, interlaced with chaos and violence, revenge, and grace. A beautifully written screenplay, with better character development than most Westerns too - the baddest guy wasn't all bad, and the goodest guys and girls weren't all good either. An excellent, riveting, and completely absorbing watch. Hats off to all of the actors in this, as well as the horse trainers! One other thing: most movies end after the bad guys are defeated, but this one played out for longer, and it made the ending much more satisfying. Also, the scenery was incredible, and so the location team should also be commended. Beautiful, meaningful, and yet rough and gnarly and challenging film. Truly a great watch.
