One of my favorite movies, period. Watched it as a kid, and it presented a wonderful, hopeful way to think about death and learning to let someone go, with the right amount of humor and hints of some real terror here and there, especially from a kid's perspective. If you have a kid interested in horror but don't want to drop them into Saw II, this is silly, heartfelt horror with a happy ending. Christopher Lloyd absolutely carries the movie in an incredibly warm embrace.
