I've watched the first 3 films and enjoyed them as decent action films. But this one was terrible. Is it a new producer ? It's like they had no budget and some amateur wrote the lack luster script. The humour was even fairly lame for most of it. It's the sort of movie you'd expect from a Netflix exclusive. It almost lost me, was so close to just shutting it off except I wanted to find out if I was right about Barney.... The CGI was crude & computer game like, and the green screen backgrounds were like something you'd expect from a B-grade 80s movie. Near the end when Fox's character is standing on the small boat she is completely out of scale to the boat and despite there being fairly big swell from the ocean, the boat doesn't move. Lighting was bad. Background and foreground lighting didn't blend at all. Reminded me of one of those old black and white movies that have been coloured. Plot was disjointed, boring and highly predictable for most of the movie. I had the 'surprise' villain figured out early in the movie and as there was very little character development, I didn't even feel any passionate hate for character, which you normally would in this kind of movie. Megan Fox's character didn't fit in at all and was downright annoying. The personality of her character kept changing randomly from one extreme to the other. She looked fake and sounded fake. The other characters were mediocre. I felt no personal connection with any of them. There was little to no edge of the seat sensation throughout the action scenes. Most of the action scenes were just your typical random machine gun fire fights with the occasional decent hand to hand combat scene. Camera work was all over the place during the fight scenes. I was honestly watching the clock on this one, waiting for it to finish. I was so disinterested, I even missed the 'nipple shot' at the end that is referred to several times in the reviews here lol :D They should have let Expendables rest with the last movie. I sincerely hope they aren't planning another one.

Really boring and predictable plot, it just went nowhere and follows the same sort of storyline (parents rescuing stranded children against all odds) as most of these apocolyptic movies. It doesn't help that this style of movie has been flogged to death far too many times. You can tolerate an uninspiring storyline if the acting and effects are good, but unfortunately this movie didn't have any of it. I recognise the father as 'Bud' from the old 90s series Jag. He was probably the most convincing out of any of the cast. The rest rated from mediocre to bad. The movie is full of really, really bad, amateur CGI effects. The closeup aircraft scenes reminded me of the old Thunderbird series or Team America lol :D You can overlook a brief scene or two with bad CGI, but when most of the movie relies on it...... Not such a good idea. Given the time, I could probably create similar quality scenes using free software like Blender and I don't profess to being a skilled animator. I understand new producers have to start somewhere and don't usually have a fraction of the budget that the big Hollywood producers have at their disposal. And for this reason, I don't think an inexperienced producer should tackle such a potentially big project as one of these apocolyptic style disaster movies unless they have acess to a healthy budget, some good actors and an experienced team of CGI animators equipped with capable software. Start with something a lot less ambitious. I'm just glad I watched the movie for free on 'Tubi'. If I had paid for it, I'd be dirty!
