Revisited this gem after 5-6 years on Netflix and still remained spell-bound by its sheer excellence yet again. It just breaks my heart that it did not do well at the box office, i remember watching it in an almost empty theatre on day 3. Anyways this movie does not deserve even 0.25 stars cut in any aspect because it is the definition of perfection. Reema Kagti is definitely a phenomenal director who can evoke plethora of good feelings and emotions within audiences which she has successfully done both in Talaash and Gold. Plus the story and dialogue writing credits have also been given to the magnificent Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap and that quality certainly was showcased. Talk about the shots in which they have captured the contrast of the high-rise and slum/chawls of Mumbai and also added glamour wherever needed. The silent BGM was so intoxicating throughout the movie probably one of the most underrated and the music album of Talaash is criminally underrated; each and very song is unique and the magical lyrics are penned by none other than the legendary Javed Akhtar. The story and screenplay is excellent did not even bore for a minute, you might think where are the regular meetings and conversations between Aamir and Kareena taking us but no dialogue is wasted, it all comes around at the end. The way it integrated the murder mystery and the PTSD of Aamir by a single thread and philosophy is extremely praiseworthy. There are plenty of moving scenes and I don't know why people could not buy the ending I mean I kindof do know but according to me that is the most beautiful, impactful and moving part of the film. And lastly the performances I mean what should I even say about that and where should I start, these veterans made this 4/5 story into 5/5. Aamir Khan is the leading man and has the toughest role out of all the actors and he is simply sensational in conveying emotions of a dad, husband and a no nonsense police officer and wait for the last scene of the movie, everytime I watch it his expressions move me to tears and I cannot help it, acting at its finest. Rani Mukherji is simply mind-blowing in the movie, whatever expression she conveys it hits you right in the feels,no matter what role you give her she takes the shape of the character like water. And one of my favs Kareena Kapoor is gorgeous and absolutely natural as ever in her portrayal, you may not know where this potentially one-note character is heading and what is her life all about but wait for the climax and Aamir and Kareena have the most natural and magical chemistry on screen, its sad that they have only done 3 films together, both of them always do magic on screen. This is the movie that gave the legendary Nawazuddin Siddiqui the actual meaty identity in Bollwyood. Nawaz is shady as ever and at his absolute best in this film, whenever he arrives you cannot take his eyes of him. Apart from that Rajkumar Rao and Sheeba Chadha have done really well in their limited screentime, Sheeba has one genuinely moving moment towards the end, that is the brilliance of the writing and direction that everyone gets moments to shine and this is much more than just a thriller and it is an extremely heartfelt and human story.
In case you still have not watched it, absolutely give it a watch, this kind of artistry eserves all the love and attention in the world
