Rob Zombie has silently kept the Hell -Billy horror film alive, in a world where people are offended over movies that aren't real but will reflexively vote to kill actual babies, I am glad Mr. Zombie is still able to make his movies, even if this one is a few years old..I feel the need to promote it and the director Rob Zombie because it's a dying art, those of us who were kids in the 80's and 90's will always have an affection to horror / gore movies..so reaching a newer audience is vital for this genre and in my opinion RZ is one of the few who gets it these days, Eli Roth is hit or miss and Jordan Peele is racist, so Mr. Zombie gets my vote as the lone savior of the genre because politics and a virus hasn't ruined every single movie made yet so hopefully RZ keeps making his films for better or for worse.
These RZ films all have a similar theme and style, it's a unique style and theme - albeit a little repetitive if you've seen his entire catalog of films and "31" certainly counts as a decent way to spend an hour and 45 minutes, even if you'll most likely feel at some point that maybe you've seen some of this before in his other works or in other films in general that are obvious influences.
This film can be described as the crazed psycho carnie version of "The Running Man" with memorable characters for sure, so for that alone, check this one out. "Tubi" has the movie for free with limited commercials, but if you're a horror fan and again, you're familiar with Rob Zombie movies and you can stomach them, this one is definitely worth checking out- especially if you love clowns and the wonderful people who work at carnivals and moonlight as serial killers.
It's worth noting that it's kind of a friends and family event for RZ in his movies- meaning the acting or predictability and plot isn't going to blow anyone away or change your life, but it works. An example is his wife who is in every one of his films and she is noticeably the identical character in every one of films, it's most likely intentional but a little repetitive at this point, but overall the acting from the entire cast is surprisingly good for largely lesser known actors or aging and mainstream forgotten actors that appear in his films.
The primary take away from this movie is that you'll remember certain unique and original characters and a scene or two forever after viewing this certified B movie, Horror Hell-Billy gem. I highly recommend if you like this genre and obviously the style of Rob Zombie movies. 5 stars.
