Native Son is a very fine novel that excels with its writing style, which doesn't waste time describing settings and arbitrary details. Instead, it spends it establishing characters' thought processes through introspection, dialogue, and action. Just about every other aspect is great as well. I'm not a fan of literature, but this kept my interest and is definitely worth reading.

Genuinely entertaining film and has aged well with the post-ironic sense of humor of the internet. There are plenty of bad jokes and as many good ones, but since they're all told at rapid-fire, they never linger. The film is certainly competent but is for a fairly niche audience, so it is easy to see why many wouldn't like it. I think it's a 6/10, but I really enjoyed it.

Joker is a very good character study, most comparable to "Taxi Driver," another film that Robert de Niro stars in. Unlike the latter, however, Joker has much better pacing.
