I wasn’t too keen on this movie because the horror genre is invariably a NO for me and when I watched the trailer, my expectations were even lower. I spent half of Malignant thinking what the hell is going on because the movie just provide you with pieces and twists that you need but you don’t know what they’re for. But as the second half kicked in, the movie took a complete mind-blowing turn when you realise what’s going on and all the pieces started coming together.
This movie is very self-aware, intentionally bad in the first half even with the performances especially Annabelle Wallis, which I think was all orchestrated by Director James Wan to set up this insane and original story, this is one of the elements that makes Malignant so watchable.
Malignant is also very terrifying, with tension build up, jump scares and the general atmosphere being genuinely disturbing and gore specifically in the prison cell scene which was an absolute delight to watch. At the end of the movie, I had few questions about some illogical things that happened but overall, I had a good time and recommend you will too.
