This is a great show in that it provides us, who have come from a minority and low socioeconomic background, with a show that is relatable. I don’t see it as liberal, I see it as very close to reality.
I guess some of the white people who are offended by the show have never understood that many of us minorities are offended by every other show on TV or big screen. We have been either misrepresented or not represented at all. To see that Gabe’s show gives a broader perspective of what POC can be is refreshing. Notice that the positions of power, the principal and AP are people of color. The janitor and the naive teacher are portrayed by white actors. To a white person this may be like Bizarro world. But in truth it’s not. You see this demographic in a lot of public schools in rural or low socioeconomic neighborhoods. If you’ve never noticed, it’s because you’ve not gone to this type of school, you lived in a more privileged area, or you choose to not see it.
White people and other political conservatives need to stop being so sensitive. Why does this one show bother you that much? Think of it this way. At least the white person is not shown as a “drug dealer”, or a “house maid”, or a “homeless person”, or a “prostitute”, or “the gardener” or a “criminal”, or in any other demeaning way. You all have no reason to complain or cry about it. We need more tv and movies that show what the world really looks like— not a white-washed version of it.
