As an American Jew, this is a time period that resonates with me, not in the way it would for an Israeli; that is impossible, but as someone who can remember being a 9 year old in temple when our rabbi told us what had happened. Israel has always been dear to me, so I was drawn to this series.
There is no question as to the fantastic job done here to prevent realistic war scenes without going becoming too much. The human stories are well done, too. As an American, I greatly appreciated the Mizrahi perspective, which appears to be be very similar to the Black one in the U.S. I did not realize that.
I watched this dubbed, but never felt overly conscious of this.
I did not like the after credits scene, which did not seem true to me or the best choice given that it showed an extremism instead of a promise.
What an amazing job overall. I was riveted, touched deeply and came away better educated, too.
