The slow pace is “supposed” to represent pain. Instead, the activities are just boring. A birthday party, a boat party, and a dinner party representing an affluent lifestyle do not create sympathy for the characters who are going through the death if a child and the dissolution of a marriage.

Overlooked movie. Fantastic acting with Glenn Close and Amy Adams. Coming of age story told through flashbacks. Lots of drama about things that happen in real-life.
