I really don’t like to operate in hyperbole so I’m going to try not to overstate my claim. With that said, this is truly a perfect movie. Not to call it the best movie of all time; art is subjective. It is to say that from the opening sequence through the end credits, there is not one second which could have been improved upon or done anything better.
The film has everything a classically great film should have: a killer opening sequence, a story line which intertwines within the action, great music, no sex scene, incredible cinematography. Quality, truly quality use of foreshadowing, background, character development, and plot twists to turn what is otherwise a fairly formulaic plot line into a unique story.
I hesitate to call it the best film of all time. It might not even be the most personally impactful film I’ve seen this year. But it is 100% without a doubt an all time great film, a sequel which puts its original counterpart to shame (there I said it), a masterpiece. A true crowning achievement in what it means to make an action film. Congratulations to everyone involved in the making of this film, it was a genuine pleasure to watch it and there is in my opinion no movie with which I’d have rather returned to theatres post-Covid than Top Gun: Maverick.
