I do not normally write reviews. Deem myself a “Rater not a Writer” when it comes to objects. Customer experience and service is where I tend to focus my energy. Though here I find myself taking the time to write this.
This sudden change in behavior stems from a place that I feel needs, and should be shared to fellow readers.
Here’s my story:
Someone recommended the book to me. I never looked it up. Did not know what the subject matter was. Was only told I should read it. I trusted this person’s judgment.
Fast forward a year later and I find I’ll need to go on a long drive and decided I will try my first audiobook. (My preference is a good ol paperback and now for convenience Kindle.)
I will not bother you with all of the in between details, but over a period of several weeks. I just happen to finish the book this past Thursday and have been processing it on so many levels that I am astounded the impact this book had on me.
From all the of the characters, to the authors and now I want to be an Apiary. Is it perfect, no. Was it informative and captivating and surprising and annoying and stimulating and thought provoking. YES!!!!
I am known to have strong opinions. Especially as a lesbian woman with a 30 yr old son who is an athlete, and have experienced the penal system, who had strong scientific responses to what it was to be a woman, thanks to these two people, I now find myself thinking a bit differently, more openly.
Thank you
Afterthought: do believe the medium this book is absorbed matters. I could see how the story could lose some of the impact in printed form.
