I think they missed the mark with general audiences. Nobody wants to watch someone grapple with PTSD in real life or on the big screen. I thought film was meant to be an escape from reality's anxieties and pressures.
In a world where more and more of the population suffers from PTSD, showcasing one individual and his unique suffering is a bit self-indulgent. Maybe would have been received better if marketed as a "human condition" piece, rather than setting one guy apart with his typical 1st world issues. Nothing exceptional here. What person walking is living such a charmed existence so as not to be tramautized by death and distress?
