As much as I wanted to love this story, it just isn't for me.
The plot is terribly shallow and lacking in true heroism. The magic is uninspiring. The author spends way too much time explaining the rules of sympathy and elaborating on uninteresting academics. The main conflicts are mostly mundane and uncompelling.
Indeed I could write a whole novella on the shortcomings of this title but worst of all is the outright simpery of Kvothe and other male characters for the heartless, manipulative and aloof harlot, Denna. It makes a pathetic cuckold out of what would otherwise be a decently well-rounded protagonist that one could easily cheer for and it's utterly disappointing because both the lore of the land and the dialogue is fairly good.
I'm glad I used free bonus credits on Audible to acquire this series because I couldn't imagine spending a dollar of real money on it.
