First, the show isn’t perfect. It throws a lot at the wall, and some of it doesn’t quite stick. One of my least loved areas was the music choices. They felt (I wish I could say this in a better way but...) a little obvious at times. This was only an issue for me because almost everything else about the show kept defying my expectations. Mixing genre, medium, and media the whole thing is explorative, meditative, explosive, bitter, sweet, personal, funny, but most of all, true. Every character is perfectly balanced between their motivations and their morals. Their flaws and redemptions. The way they interact is a thing of beauty. Girl/Haji so thoroughly and subtly explores all the things that pull us together, as well as what pushes us apart. I could write more but I’d be getting into details that you should really discover in the show’s watching. For me, this is a masterpiece of storytelling and modern television. It kept me gripped from start to finish. There was one moment that felt a little ‘Deus Ex Machina’ towards the end but overall, the series pushes out and bravely explores new ways of telling a story so effectively, and the characters are so well realised that I couldn’t help but love every minute of this show.
