Not sure why reviews are so positive for this movie. The jokes fell flatter than a pancake. I was in a packed movie cinema and barely a flutter of laughter for the punchlines. It was like being at a comedy show when someone just keeps on bombing. Like, why is a shark that keeps saying one syllable funny? Didn't Groot already wear out that joke? At one point, John Cena is legitimately trying to have a serious scene while wearing a toaster for a helmet? It's not even trying to be ironically funny, that's the thing. And spoiler, the idea for the villain is a complete rip off of Rick and Morty. What a shame to besmirch by association something with actual ingenuity. This film gets 1 star, if only for Margot Robbie, who does a decent enough job, like a Michelin chef trying to make Atlantic Salmon with a piece of carp. It's a YIKES from me.

I read in the paper that this movie was set to be 'one of the biggest box office bombs of all time'. Coupled with negative critic reviews, I was disappointed because I had been waiting for the release date with anticipation. The critics couldn't have been more wrong. Thank God I took the time to read the google reviews of some regular folk whose (mostly) positive reviews convinced me to see Goldfinch. Clearly those professional critics weren't paid for a 5 star review like they were for Ad Astra. I found The Goldfinch to be a touching exploration of the pervasive nature of trauma and how It affects the subsequent events in our lives. The acting was superb and the storyline engrossing, leaving its heavy hitting best until the end. I'll never take some old windbag's review from a newspaper seriously ever again, unless it's an Adam Sandler movie in which case it probably deserved 1 star.
