Ok, I'll start by saying I haven't seen The Haunting of Hill House (truth be told I'd never heard of it before I started watching The Haunting of Bly Manor), and to begin with I was pretty much hooked and had high hopes for the next eight episodes, but eventually the dreadful accents, constant back-and-forth, drawn out and very slow paced storyline made me change my mind.
As others have mentioned, despite the description this is a love story with a touch of 'ghosting around'. There are a couple of jump moments but this is not a horror story or psychological thriller, and is actually rather bland. It could also have been a wonderful series had the storyline been a lot shorter, with more focus. Sadly there was very little depth to the characters but plenty of irrelevant padding to the tale being told, and ultimately I lost interest. I managed to push on and made it to the end of episode 7, but that was enough for me.
When you realise you don't much care how the story ends and are only watching to say you gave it a good try, well that's when you know it's time to give up and find another show to watch.
