I don't usually write reviews and believe in saying nothing at all if I have nothing good to add to the conversation. But, I had to write something about this abysmal movie.
Having read Archie's as a kid, and being a sucker for nostalgia, I was extremely excited for this movie. The only thing that could put me off this movie was the disappointing casting. It seemed like a winning combination of Zoya Akhtar, nostalgia and a fun and light storyline. But boy, this wasn't great. The wooden delivery of the lines, a single frequency of all emotions completely killed the wit, sarcasm and pep that jumped out the pages of the book. Quite unfortunate that an inanimate medium was livelier and more emotive than the movie. Be it the chemistry between the main love triangle to the friendship between Jughead and Archie or the camaraderie and wit that the gang shared, was lackluster and pretty much non existent.
Honestly skip it. Disappointing enough to justify me not watching the full thing. Could've been saved with better actors. The music and the sets are good though. Definitely two stars for them.
