Genius.
Narrated by Death.
Will become a classic in 100 years time.
Was a bit annoyed of a certain chapter that contained an ultimate spoiler. But, reading the book again that spoiler was necessary in order to understand how Death is bored of life in general, and how he just wants to die which (of course) he can't because he is Death. This book taught me that Death is not to be hated upon when someone dies, he simply collects souls, humans cause their own deaths (whether by old age or cancer) there body just gives up on them, Death does not deserve the hatred his gets by humans.
Loved the characters; Rudy Steiner, Arthur Berg and Death will always have a special place in my heart and have been inspiring to me.
A few quotes from TBT that are my personal favorites:
"You see, even Death has a heart."-Made me realise who Death really is.
I can't find this quote, but when Death says he does not carry a sickle or scythe. And, how he only wears a black robe when he is cold. And, does not have any of the extreme facial features we give him. If you want to see what he looks like he tells you to get a mirror while he continues.-Gave me chills...I looked in a mirror.
"You might be asking what on Earth he was thinking, and the answer was probably nothing. Or, maybe he was excercising the god-given right of stupidity"-Made me laugh
"Years ago, when they'd raced on the muddy field, Rudy was a hastily assembled set of bones, with a jagged, rocky. In the trees this afternoon, he was a giver of bread and teddy bears. He was a triple Hitler Youth athletics champion. He was her best friend. And he was one month from his **** (spoiler)"
And finally, "I wanted to tell the Book Thief many things, but what things could I tell her that she didn't already know. I wanted to tell her I constantly overestimate and underestimate the human race, and really do I ever simply just estimate it. But, I didn't. I simply just turned to the book thief, and told her the only truth I truly know. I said it to the Book Thief , and I say it now to you. A last note from your narrator: I am haunted by humans."- The fact this was by Death himself...
