Overall, the game is amazing. One of the best this year. It's a bit more linear than I would've liked, but as you get deeper into the game you'll find yourself running into new areas thinking "should I be here yet?" Unfortunately you'll realize the answer is always yes and you just can't go to places you don't belong yet. The controls take some getting used to, but anyone that games a lot will get them down ultra fast. For anyone that likes to remap buttons, sorry, no option for that. Just "git gud." There's a huge emphasis on timing, especially boss fights. Some of which are really hard and can take a few deaths to figure out how to fight them and their attack patterns. I've listed a lot of cons, but for me the difficulty spikes and learning curve actually made me enjoy the game more. Despite being linear compared to other Metroid games, there are so many moments where it turns into "How do i get past this part?" Start exploring. Visually it could've been done better, especially if playing on a TV, but. This was designed as a handheld title and it shows. Doesn't take away from the game. Movements are fluid and the platforming isn't as frustrating as many games of this genre. The only true complaints I have with this game happens to be the controls with going into and out of the Spiderball, you you go to jump to a lower platform and ledge grab and get Merked by the miniboss attack you were trying to avoid. By no means are these game breaking, they just need an adjustment to your Playstyle. Overall a win and must play by any Metroid fan or newcomer to the series.
