So this movie was a pass most nights while my wife and I were scrolling through rentals. Nothing really made it stand out as a movie we wouldn't be interested in, but the trailer didn't really stand out either. Finally, we said "screw it, we are almost out of movies to watch." and we went for it. All I can say is that I'm happy we did. The movie has some political commentary in it, for sure...but I think the director did an amazing job of painting the deplorables and the undesirables exactly how they should have been: extremists on far ends of the left and right. Anyone who didn't see the humor in the depiction takes their politics way too seriously. And I can tell you, I have not seen Betty Gilpin in many rolls...but she absolutely owned this one. Her snappy banter, quick-to-action manner and dead pan acceptance of her plight was unerringly brilliant. Sure, the entire premise of the movie was borderline absurd...but I think that was kind of the point. My older teenage boys and my adult daughter watched it with us...they all thought it was great as well.
