First I'd like to say, a lot of the reviews on here, are obviously paid for by either Apple, or some other agency from the production company.
There is no way, some of the compliments that are espoused by these five star ratings are not bought and paid for.
I was really hopeful that they could do something. I knew they could not bring the books as they were written to the screen, but I was hoping they would at least hold to the spirit.
Instead what we got was a space soap opera, with cheesy costumes, bad tech and worse science.
First and foremost, Isaac Asimov was a scientist. So when they have low tech, approaches to things that we have better tech today, it's just stupid.
Second thing, all of the angst and drama that they've put into it that was just never there. All of the books were not about romance, or sexual tension, but about humanities nobler capabilities.
The original books were about sweeping inspiration and humanity is ability to overcome adversity, this is just a bad soap opera with a thin veneer of sci-fi.
You want to talk cheesy costumes, look at the armor for the supposed imperial guard. I've seen better costuming done by teenagers at small science fiction conventions.
They turned it into a bump and grind soap opera with fake drama, bad sets, and a worse premise in regards to Terminus.
This is just a really cheesy bad excuse to try to hype there number of streaming users.
It seems they spent all of their budget I'm really decent CGI. Although from what I understand, the tools to create that type of CGI are now so common in the industry that is just not that expensive to do anymore.
As to the director, he brags about how he's had this vision for this since he was a kid, and this is exactly what he wanted. If so, I'm not sure what books he read, or if he's only looking at his bank account for what he wanted instead of a completed product to be proud of. It was ill conceived, and certainly pitifully produced and directed. It is a mess.
