We watched this for a laugh and in all honesty, the movie is absolutely terrible. This will have some spoilers but to save anyone time from watching this atrocity, read on.
It was interesting in the beginning and then fast forward to when the kids have grown up a little, and everything just falls apart. It's like the writer forgot all about what they wrote in the script. For example the main character hears the crooked man say her name when her second to last friend is killed off, and then she claims the first time the crooked man called her name was when she touched the box? And let's not forgot what the majority of the reviews before mine has talked about, the main character's last friend has a cellphone. A cellphone. And while she's in the house with her mom about to have dinner, her mom obviously confiscates it and they experience a power outage. They use what looks like electric candles...instead of their actual phones. I say electric candles because it didn't flicker and I'm stumped how it somehow burns that teenager. And let's not forgot how useless the character called Milo is. Nothing against the actor, but Milo as a character is essentially the plot device for why the crooked man is on the internet, and he still lives on with no repercussion or redemption. He's just there to admit that he uploaded the crooked man song and website to the internet. They could have just stopped with the idea that the professor who was researching mythology and folklore, was forced by the crooked man to "spread his song" and do so via the internet, and then kill off the professor. You now no longer need the character Milo.
The plot is hurried along quickly to end the movie somewhat happily, but it all feels rushed with very little justice given to the story of the crooked man or some decent character development.
The Conjuring 2 was really what made the crooked man scary, but this...glitchy CGI abomination was terrible to look at. I hope that they do release a proper crooked man movie based on the conjuring. That was well done.
The sound effects are also really bad, the ending where the main character's love interest shoots at the crooked man, what were those gun shot sound effects? Sound and the sound effects are very important in a horror film as it builds up the anxiety and fear in the audience. It wasn't felt here in all honesty.
All in all, don't bother with the film. An hour and a half, you'd probably be enjoying spending this time elsewhere.
