Monotonous. I found the character Antonia especially annoying with her "Jolly hockey sticks" way of speaking. I like to read books all the way through but almost gave up on this one several times.

Somewhat depressing and slow-moving. Too much description and not enough action!
I have had the book "Bourneville" by the same author recommended. I hope I will enjoy that more.
