Too much horror baked into the concept, without any rationale behind the story. How is it possible to 'refract' DNA', how is it possible to do something like without any observable energy source to handle the needs to transformation and expansion, a central sentience driving the entire refraction - even if self preservation is the motive, it will be better served by merging into local flora and fauna, rather than transforming it and thus bringing it into conflict with the a dominant species ... And how can such a sophisticated life form evolve or travel on a meteor ... Too many gaps left open for it to be taken seriously.
