There's nothing in this movie's plot that is quintessential Sonic. If you're after nostalgic awesomeness, you will be disappointed. Sonic only has powers he's not had before, or has them at a level that would make all his video games trivial. Like a single ring can teleport him anywhere? And he has an approximately endless supply? Until he drops them accidentally through a portal and needs to go get them. The movie shows how it would take mere seconds for him to find the rings but drags it out to showcase generic ridiculousness for no gain. And Robotnik is pointless and illogical. He's a government agent reasonably assigned to locate a major threat to life but a police officer (Sonic's buddy cop) refuses to assist for no reason. Then Robotnik deliberately causes massive loss of life which noone cares about as long as he doesn't capture the also dangerous alien. What happened to you Sonic? What are you doing Sega?
