Amazing game, I’ve been playing it since the early access with the pre-order. The graphics are stunning, you can zoom into the eyes of the characters & see the veins, the acne on their skin, a stubble growing on the characters faces, the texture of the skin behind their ears. But even moving away from the characters, the textures of the world is really well handled too. The setting in Metropolis is such a big change from Gotham (Previous Arkham games setting), they fleshed out the world perfectly, a big city with skyscrapers that shows its grandeur, it feels futuristic with the helicopter landings on the sides of the skyscrapers made for flying cars. Each region of the map has its own unique feel to the city of Metropolis giving each environment its own feel & backstory, from the corporate enterprises located at Central Business District, to the poverty-stricken people who live in the Suicide Slums, the world is beautifully crafted. Another reference to the Arkham games I’ll mention is the fact that it’s nice that SSKTJL has a day/night cycle, making the game take place over multiple days rather than the one night which is constantly dark in the Arkham series. The characters are portrayed in such an engaging manner, you have the choice to play as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot & King Shark (Base game), all villains in their own right, but faced with the adventure they go on, they learn to work as a team & become something more, develop themselves to be more than just a villain. Together they take up impossible odds such as “killing” the Justice League, all their personal run ins with each member of the Justice League has thought them their strengths & weaknesses. The chemistry between the squad never gets old, constantly funny & witty, picking on each other, personalities clashing & much more, they genuinely feel like fleshed out people who’ve been stuck together who if given the option wouldn’t have even acknowledged each other. As for the Story (Before Season 1), it’s an interesting take on brainiac & an amazing continuation on from the Arkham series. Even with all the misinformation people have put out there about how certain things were handled (No spoilers here, but there’s a lot that people don’t talk about, the game deserves a better rating, get off the hate train & actually form your own opinion). The gameplay is so fun, each character feels unique with their weapons & traversal, Harleys an acrobat with Batman’s gear, Boomerang can use the Speedforce in short bursts to zoom around with a broken gauntlet, Deadshot can fly through the air giving him the advantage in any fight & King Shark is a demigod tank that can jump super high & even swim through the air. I know a lot of people are iffy about the live service, but the future updates are free, new playable characters, new locations & more story, all free, they had to release a base story to set up what they really want to do, the battlepass & cosmetic shop is optional for those who want to buy it, but the true beauty of a live service game is that we as the consumer have a chance to influence Rocksteady for what we want to see added to the game. Another reason why I hope haters stop hating so the game doesn’t get pulled, I want to see where this goes. There’s at least 12 seasons coming & I really hope this rocky opening doesn’t affect that. I really hope the haters lay off & people who want to enjoy a good game will give it a go, if you actually don’t enjoy it you can always get a refund, but try the game, you won’t regret it.
