I was hesitant to watch given the negative reviews, but glad I took my chances. For me, it was a super original take on slasher films, reigniting my love for horror. It’s sort of like what Wicked did to Wizard of Oz. Took the old tropes and spun it in its head. Suspense was dealt out in just the right amount, pacing was on par, it did the most with the concept of following the killer around while hearing only parts of what you can imagine being the other side of this slasher film- the victim’s side. Their discoveries of murder, the shock and horror reactions, their execution of a plan to subdue or kill the slasher. For me it was just what I needed. Fresh take on slasher horror. And with this open door, the ideas for sequels or even spin offs are endless. I have some complaints, but the entertainment value far exceeds them. In my opinion, this was a pretty fresh film with a rather brilliant and original idea.

Unique, fresh, and original. A little short on physical logic but overall an entertaining watch. Definitely satiates the primal masculine craving in a movie. No trim, no frill, no feel good moments, just 100% pure and raw brutality beginning to end. A great throwback to gritty urban action movies. While I agree with most reviews likening it to John Wick, it feels like it gets a lot of influence from 70s gritty urban action. It has a bit of Death Sentence (2007), but mostly: Joel Kinnaman embodies a slightly younger Thomas Jane, especially with wardrobe and lighting. So if you ever wanted a brutal Punisher 2 with thin plot and all action, seeing Thomas Jane enact violence, this might scratch the itch. It did for me!

This is the place where I’m supposed to write what’s right or wrong with this movie. What’s right: Nothing. What’s wrong: The part where the movie was happening.

I enjoyed this film more than I expected. I’m not a big vampire or Dracula lore fan, but this one was well done. I think this film did an excellent job. Creature design was good, plot was always keeping me guessing, ended on a satisfying note without spoiling what’s known to be a doomed voyage, very few complaints, outside of how it achieved the horror elements but could have perfected the filmmaking to make the horror aspect more impactful. Overall, enjoyable and worth the watch.

Acting was impressive. Plot and message was solid. Suspense was rationed just right for pacing. Raw elements of horror of the world’s reality stripped of mankind’s sugar coated arrogance is the true horror. It’s nice watching a movie that’s not polluted with elements of “the message” in line with Hollywood’s narrative. 5/5.

Spitting in the face of classic masterpiece horror by making teen horror that felt more like a Prom Night remake. The end credits are literally strobing multicolors over techno music. -Spoilers- Plot made as much sense as if Ms. Smith’s second grade class wrote it (a cut to the abdomen is an instant kill, but a torso impalement and 30 foot toss from a chainsaw leaves the character continuing to fight). They introduce the elderly survivor of the original in a Halloween rip off just to kill her, by a seemingly un-aged Leatherface who should be 70+ years old. Filled with as many unnecessary social justice topics crammed in the first 10 minutes in an attempt to make it relevant, but serves no purpose but make it arrogant and exploitive. Insults your intelligence regardless of stance on any of these issues. In fact, the pushing of SJWs as lead characters is so dull, there are no protagonists you invest in, but rather hate. Leatherface is given a brief tragic moment, so for the first time, I literally rooted for Leatherface from the start. Not caring about any characters’ demise. I could analyze deeper but no need to waste anymore time on this stinker. I’m ashamed I watched this.
