I didn't find either.
The characters were pitiable. I think there's supposed to be humor in there. How pitiable they are, maybe?
There was zero scary or funny. I don't know what category of book it is except for "sad mystery". It definitely has "who dunnit" vibes but you'll probably accurately guess who it is that's perpetrating crimes.
