Like a lot of big budget films these days, it just doesn't have that 'epic' feel to it, even when compared to the preceding Indiana Jones films - for comparison, much like 'Gladiator' and other Roman-era films made in recent years, which can't compare to the 1959 version of Ben Hur in terms of sheer epicness in both look and feel. Just relying on CGI to carry films these days is, to my mind, to their detriment. Raiders of the Lost Ark it ain't.
