This was the FIRST silent film I ever saw. TCM aired it when I was 17 years old (2002) and I was in a motel in Louisiana with my mother and sister. I was up late and the other two were sleeping. I think I had been watching either "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" or "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" and it is the movie that made me fall IN LOVE with the work of Lon Chaney Sr. and lead to me learning about his efforts with special effects makeup and how much of himself he put into his roles and his craft. I ended up doing a report on him in school after that and am still in awe of him today. VERY good movie. The EMOTION in Lon's face as he became Alonzo and he expressed what Alonzo was feeling and going through... BRILLIANT. The PAIN in his face when he was hurt by what was happening can be FELT. Just an AMAZING actor. Very skilled artist.
