I'm an Asian and I loved telenovelas ever since I was young about 6 years old. The first telenovela I saw was Marimar and that's when I realized I loved telenovelas.
Now, I recall watching La Reina del Sur years ago (don't know what year) from our local TV channel, but never really got hooked or continued watching it because I thought that it was just some ordinary TV series. I believe it just caught my attention recently in 2020 and thanks to Netflix. While watching season 1, I began to think that Teresa Mendoza's character is so cool and the TV series is action-packed. Love, romance, betrayal, faith, friendship, trust, and crime started to sound interesting to me then. Teresa Mendoza is truly an inspiration for strong, independent women around the world. Drug trafficking is very well depicted in this series and I know it's a reality not only in Mexico but anywhere in the world as well. You will definitely learn the disadvantages of dealing with drugs from this series as well.
I can't believe this first aired in 2011 and I just saw season 1 in 2020. Ugh! Now I have Netflix, I'm gonna be binge-watching season 1. I can't wait what's going to happen in the next episodes. You guys better watch it too! Finally, hoping there will be more seasons to come.
