This is a true CLASSIC FILM, nothing I can say can do it justice! You have to understand what this movie meant to America in 1941 and the next four years while so many were fighting in Germany, and isles of the Pacific. Alvin York was among the most decorated men of the entire 1st WW. And Gary Cooper was a beloved actor, so add those three ingredients up, and you have a great film at a great time with a great actor. Also, the story is one of heart-warming endurance--a poor boy with a converted heart, caught up in having to make a tough decision, whether to go against what he has come to so firmly believe, that a human life is precious in the sight of God, or to go with the sweeping patriotism of his homeland. My mother sold tickets at a theater in Dallas, Texas when the movie showed there, and the lines formed circles around city blocks. Our family considers it a family tradition to watch this film every Veteran's Day!
