I heard a synopsis of The Acolyte on a spoiler free podcast review & I thought, oh, that sounds interesting! However, upon tuning into the show, I found that the story was poorly executed. There seems to be no coherence in Jedi rank, ALL of the characters contradict themselves constantly, the dialogue generally makes no sense & in 2 episodes, the show has created a litany of plot holes. Cannot recommend this show.

This movie feels like Netflix heard that Amazon Prime was adapting an action themed book to film, a la The Terminal List, and thought “We should do that!” Much like Tombstone/Wyatt Earp, Armageddon/Deep Impact, and a bevy of previous times that 2 films coincided around the same story, one of them is ultimately better. In this instance, The Terminal List is simply better. It may seem like an apples to oranges comparison, but if I had to choose between the two presentations, I’d definitely go with Chris Pratt’s The Terminal List. I suppose, however, if you’ve only got 2 hours, as opposed to eight, I could understand watching The Gray Man. But watch it knowing that you’re sacrificing good storyline, plot and many other factors by giving up that extra few hours.

The movie was a decent watch. No sjw politics is always a welcome change. Expected more though. It’s a sci-fi thriller, but I felt like it never really made it to the thriller part. What year is it supposed to be? Many questions unnecessarily formed and never answered. Acting was good though none of the characters were really compelling, directing/cinematography was good, dialogue was believable. Felt like I kept waiting for it to takeoff and it just never did, then it was over. It felt disjointed and just never gelled. Hubby gave up on it out of boredom about halfway through. If there’s something competing for your time, do whatever else it is! If you’ve got a couple hours, it’s interesting enough, I guess?

Great writing great acting. So why such a low rating? I’m only one episode in, but it’s a right-wing fanatic white nationalist kidnapping a Muslim. This is SO antithetical to reality. Hollywood & their ilk must push “the message” and much like being unable to find racism against Asians in the real world, they have to create this type of storyline in order to convince the masses that it exists. I will continue watching the series. If I’ve jumped the gun, I will edit my review. If it’s more of the same, I will not. It’s a shame. I really like Gary Oldman!

I think 3 stars is proper for this series. It didn’t really offer anything that wasn’t already available on the internet. The sensationalized “facts” took away from the actual storyline. The actress playing Anna did an amazing job. Her accent for Anna was spot on, having listened to her on 60 minutes. There was a little too much woke theme in it, but given that it’s set in modern day NY, that’s probably true to their lives.

I’m watching this movie now. When I saw the trailer, I thought, it might be okay. I have to say, first, that I don’t like any of the cast, except Jennifer Lawrence. If I knew more about her politics, I probably wouldn’t like her either. I decided, though, to try to put my biases aside and maybe enjoy the movie. That was a mistake. I’m about 45 minutes in and it feels like the movie should be over already. The pacing is incredibly slow, the jokes (if they’re even in there) just aren’t hitting at all, and the satire is simply lost somewhere in the film. I understand what they’re trying to say, but it’s just not landing right. In order to be funny, satire needs to be intelligent and quick. This film is neither. Perhaps it’s because I’m on the other side of the political divide than the people behind this movie, but I say don’t waste your time on it.

I think this show is an awesome stand alone fantasy project. I would give it five stars if not for the deviation from the book, specifically the creation of unnecessary political/social agenda, otherwise known as “The Message”. Although it’s not very heavy handed, it has a wammen are better, down with the patriarchy vibe at places. Other than that, I think it’s an excellent project. No cursing or lewdness, can watch with children. If you’ve read and truly appreciate the books, prepare yourself before watching. It is not the books, but it’s great entertainment.
