This is my current favorite supernatural show, pleasantly eerie. Also my current favorite police show, showing just how far criminal justice has come. Also my current favorite historical drama, with excellent period details and costumes. Russian with English subtitles that track the dialog pretty well. The actress that plays Anna is excellent, capturing a nice mixture of sophisticated yet sweet. The other main characters are also very good; Anna's family, the head detective, his deputy and coroner, and the main bad guys. Peripheral characters are more one-dimensional. Some plot lines are pretty obvious, but others, and the longer story arcs, are more complex and intriguing. On the downside, sometimes the plots don't entirely make sense, or don't get resolved convincingly. I didn't think the plot line was very convincing when they created estrangement between Anna and Iacov, the head detective. Production quality sometimes drops. (Did they think viewers wouldn't notice they reuse some market scenes?) Action scenes are more like real life - clumsy, quick, than the usual slick Hollywood style with closeups, dramatic stunts, slow mo and dramatic music. But my main frustration - where are seasons 2 and 3???
