Rango is one of those underrated gems that tends to slip under the radar for many while bigger name movies like a Disney or a Pixar gets more attention, a shame really since the movie is a lot of fun and so beautifully well made.
It's a Western but with an assorted collection of animal life as the characters, it's pretty much a homage to westerns of old while bringing in new ideas.
For anyone who hasn't seen it and is curious about the movie, then Rango is about a rather sheltered and very lonely chameleon - voiced by Johnny Deep - who finds his life turned askew after a little accident.
After arriving in the frontier town of Dirt he begins spinning one tale after another while incidentally solving a mystery involving the town's water problems.
His wild tales, however, soon begin to catch up with him and he not only needs to find himself but to also help the town he has so carelessly harmed.
The animation is amazing with so much lush detail, the story is dark, serious, funny at just the right points and is delivered with great writing and witty dialogue that is all delivered by so much amazing talent who manage to give a lot of character to their roles.
It's well paced, gripping and has a lot of well timed humour. The action is handled well and always gripping no matter how many times you see it.
Rango is one of those movies that deserves to be regarded as a 'See Before You Die' movie, it's worth it. One of the best Westerns out there, highly recommended.
