I didn’t find anything scary or funny about this movie. There were some scenes that could be referred to as disturbing, but the plots just made it feel annoying. You would think a reference regarding Emmet Till would be treated with respect, right? Apparently not to this production crew. It involved him “coming back” to teach a father a lesson about “respecting sacrifice.” I’m pretty sure the civil rights movement was all about being respected as a person and being able to voice your opinion as a minority. Not mob mentality of social justice groups. To add insult to injury, famous civil rights leaders came back to make the father chose between his life or his child. I understand it’s a horror movie, but when you reference such historical role models like Martin Luther King II in such a cruel manner it’s nothing short of disgusting. The other stories had there flaws as well with relatively weak dialogue from the actors (even as someone was dying). I couldn’t find one reason to recommend this movie to a single person. I still can’t believe this is from 2016 as it displays white men as sexist pigs that hate the opposite race. I’m still surprised it managed to squeeze in other terrible messages as well. For example, it implies that “illegal aliens deserve the same rights as black people.” Never mind it’s comparing a group of criminals and an entire race! It also implied that the Republican Party is racist. I could state hundreds of reasons why that’s inaccurate, but I’ll just say this. It the party that ended slavery, not the party that pushed the Indian Removal act and caused one the most horrendous genocide in American history. The movie is also against AI police force, which was very out of place considering that institutional racism has led to a number of hate crimes committed by individual police officers that were racist. At the end though, I wasn’t surprised to see the antagonist go to hell, it’s practically the same as the movie. The special effects were also cheesy and looked cheap.
