Honestly I don’t know where to begin. If this game were not so much a driven story game than honestly I would not be as angry and disappointed as I am right now. The first game was one of the very first games I played on my ps3 which I treasure to this day so this franchise means a lot to me. The gameplay is good, that much is certain. But what ultimately ruins the whole experience is the plot. Spoilers** While I did know Joel was going to die what I didn’t know was how the daughter of a random doctor kills one of the greatest characters ever made with a golf club. I still can’t believe my shock when I saw that. Honestly I was hoping for a more honorable and beutiful death for a character who proved to be the embodiment of Last of us and what it meant for this game as a whole. Killing him off at the beginning of the game by a random she hulk of a character does not do any justice to such an amazing character. I don’t mean to not pick on this one but by God the worst “romantic” scene I have ever seen came from a game that was credited with such great story telling that honestly I can’t hold back my laugh. Pairing up a she hulk and Owen together in a sex scene like that one should honestly be banned. The fact that we play as the person who killed our believes character for a good part of the story is just insulting to the man who, along with Ellie , made Last of Us what it was: a story driven game with great characters who are not perfect. There are many more critiques I could make such as most of it, at times being a walking simulator like how some viewed Death Stranding or how we were suppose to feel sympathetic to a jacked up daughter of an irellevsnt doctor who killed the person that saved her life. But what ultimately destroyed the whole experience for myself was the ending. Honestly the way they handled Ellie and Abby was unforgivable in my eyes. First she wants to kill her then she sets Abby free then tries to kill her and then says she won’t until she almost drowns her and finally leaves her to go to a boat and escape only after losing two fingers. The ending leaves nothing to be desired: Her fear of being alone with no one of importance. As a result for showing the mercy of ending the cycle of revenge, she loses the only way for her to cope with the death of Joel: playing his guitar. There were some good parrellels of the other game but overall I can’t see myself enjoying this game at the very least. I know I might be biased but honestly I wish I could give a rating lower than 1 star. The gameplay was 5/5 the writing and story that last of us is known for: 0/5.
