Incredible show is you are not a book purist because it does take liberties. But they are liberties made to tell a story and not just to change the narrative. The show stays true to the heart and soul of the original works. As someone who has gotten bored of vampire stories this has blown me away with how good it truly is. Worth the watch.

After 4 seasons Evil is being cancelled by Paramount+ even though it is a popular show with actors who genuinely enjoy being on it. The first couple seasons have moved to Netflix but Netflix doesn't have a good track record either so one of the most fun shows on streaming right now is likely done. The show is clever and well made and talks openly about evil on the modern world and how technology like the internet has given evil a way to communicate and feel less alone. The show centers around three "assessors" for the Catholic Church who travel around the country trying to see if someone's problem is medical, scientific or spiritual. The first season which appeared on CBS was case of the week and often had cases resolved pretty quickly but left one little detail open for debate. When the show moved to Paramount Plus it became more long form and began asking the question about the price we all pay when good people letting evil into their lives. The show is brilliant in that it doesn't take the obvious roll. Characters that could have been written as as stereotypes are given depth and just when you think the story will go one way it goes the other. This is a fun, brilliant and spooky show that you should watch. Highly recommended.

The internet age has brought out a lot of pretentious movie reviewers who love dissing on movie critics but then acting exactly like movie critics. Talking about plot holes and character arcs and judging a movie like they are getting a college credit on it. Sometimes movies are just fun. That is the point. Bullet Train has a pretty entertaining plot but it is paper thin. Action comedies aren't exactly known for their intelligent and deep plots. Heck most action comedies the plot is incredibly thin because that isn't really the point. The point is the action. the comedy. and the fx. A bunch of assassins end up on the bullet train that goes through Japan all for different but what turns out to be connected reasons. Is it just bad luck, fate, or is something else going on? The movie is funny despite what some people say and the conversations the assassins all have with each other are clever. Is the movie perfect no. There are like ten movies in the history of time that I would rate as perfect. But if you like action comedies I would watch Bullet Train.

Waaaaay late to the party. This popped up on my Netflix recommend and I thought it was a cat documentary so I ignored it. Then I heard it was the story of Luca Magnota which I actually heard about from another documentary series. Don’t remember which one but I think Worlds Most Dangerous Killers”. It is an interesting story of a would be serial killer told by internet nerds who became obsessed with finding him after he put out his first cat video. For anyone who likes these kind of documentaries. I find serial killers interesting so this was up my alley.

I read a bunch of reviews of this movie and they all seem to either be "this is awesome" or "this sucks" reviews in one way or another. I am one of the people who really enjoyed the movie. The acting and the tone all worked for me. I also really enjoyed what the story was saying about the continued trauma of abuse intentional or not and how more then one person is Affected by a scandal. It is an unsettling character study on three different people. A woman who seduces a 12 year old boy. The boy who is now a man but still in a lot of ways still the child he was. And the actress who wants to play her in a movie. The movie doesn't come to any clear conclusions which may be why people dislike the movie but it is still a fascinating character study.

This is largely a paint by number documentary that has one major thing going for it : interrogation footage of Jennifer Pan over a couple of days. Other then that it is the usual talking heads. If you know anything about the case (which I did) you won't learn anything new. The crime itself was horrific so I understand why Netflix would want to do a documentary on it but in all honesty this would have been more interesting as a made for Netflix series because nothing of interest done with this. That being said it is also only an hour and change long so it won't exactly take too much of your time. Not really worth it though if you know anything about the case.

The Brothers Sun is one of those shows on Netflix that I would like more choices then "like" "very like" and "don't like" because I kinda liked it. Or more to the point I really wanted to murder Bruce who I thought was written TOO MUCH like a moralistic coward. Not much changed for him through what looks like season 1 of a continued story. There was no real growth for him. While there was plenty of growth for Charles. Which made his character far more interesting. Honestly this story is fine but Bruce is a real problem throughout but Charles almost makes up for it. He has multiple fun storylines. His relationship with the lady prosecutor is interesting. Plus his love of cooking adds depth to his character.

You either like Harlan Coben’s Netflix dtuff or you don’t. The stories are kinda thin and they don’t always make complete sense but they are compelling to watch. “Fool Me Once” is on the high end of his endeavors. It’s a fun mystery way too complicated to festive in a few sentences but it is worth putting in the eight hours to watch it.

It’s that very special time of year when every network starts to pull out their reserves of impossibly cute Christmas movies. Some of them are good. Some of them are bad. Family Switch lies somewhere in the middle. The body switch genre has been done a bunch of times before but I did enjoy how both parents switched with both of their kids. (I won’t get into the baby and dog thing which was just their for sight gags) The body switch is bad enough but it also happens when they all have pretty important life changing events about to happen. This is likely going to get alot of mixed reviews because it is silly. It’s a Christmas movie and most of them are. It’s the silly movie time of year. But the movie also has some real things to say about family. And how parents and children relate to each other. Even if this isn’t your usual kind of movie it isn’t horrible and at least worth the watch. It’s Christmas after all.
