TL:DR—If you have watched their livestream concert, The Show, or other clips of their concerts on YouTube (or literally anywhere else), do not pay double the price of a normal movie ticket to see this.
I can’t fully express my utter disappointment for this movie, and I’m furious that YG Entertainment thought this was a good idea. I can’t believe they actually thought that BLINKs would be happy.
This movie was supposed to be an exclusive look into their personal lives away from the stage and provide us BLINKs with new content. This was supposed to be something special for BLACKPINK’s 5th Anniversary. It was, in a way, supposed to be a gift to the fans (even though gifts are free and nothing was free).
What we got instead were reused clips from The Show and their other concerts that you can find on YouTube for free. 75% of the movie is stuff that if you’re a moderately dedicated fan, you will have seen before. We barely got new content and the stuff that was new didn’t last for very long, so the weight of it didn’t hit. The parts that were supposed to be sweet and sentimental were overshadowed by performances that we’ve seen before.
I’m giving this 1 star because there's no zero stars, and the parts of the movie that were actually new were heartwarming. I could tell that the girls meant what they were saying, even if the mood of the scene would be thrown off by another loud performance two seconds later.
As much as I love BLACKPINK, and still do, I can’t in good conscience give this movie a good review because people are paying money that they worked hard for to see things they’ve already seen. If I were you, I would save the money to buy their light stick or buy the 2021 Summer Diary. At least then you’ll have something fun to wack around or actual new content.
(P.S. I’m not mad at the girls, I’m mad at YG Entertainment. I think it’s pretty obvious that Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa want to give us the new content we’re asking for but are limited by YG… allegedly. For legal reasons. You know what I mean.)
