All the lovely sets and wardrobe cannot disguise the fact that this is actually very dull! There seems to be no grand sweep, no sense of real drama, and very little in the way of characters' depth. GOT meticulously built a framework of interesting (if not always likeable) characters, in a grand tapestry woven under the never-ending fear of Winter's imminent arrival. Apart from Matt Smith, none of the chracters in the first 2 episodes here grab the attention at all. The script is extraordinarily pedestrian, with virtually no humour, and there is little sense of drama. There is a line in episode 2 "This is a truly pathetic show" which, sadly, rings very true. A massive disappointment!
