Apparently my wife and I were the only two people in the planet that truly enjoyed this movie. (Full disclosure I do NOT read reviews or plot summaries BEFORE watching a movie . I don’t even watch trailers. ) So no preconceived notions going in and no hint of spoilers. We went at it with the idea to give it some time and if it turned out bad we would just click the remote and move on. We never turned it off. We watched the entire thing. We enjoyed the whole thing. There was a fair amount of tension with enough action in between to keep it lively and on your toes. There was enough believable dialogue as well as some character development without it ever hitting you on the face or becoming the main plot line. It’s like driving with people on a long trip. Unlike most disaster movies it seemed fresh. Whenever it started to look like a stereotypical doomsday cliche it would quickly move on. I loved the character transformations. It was observable never spoken. Never main stage. If you must know exactly what’s the root cause and what’s going on and why is it happening then maybe you should skip this movie. But if you want to see what the heck happens along the way to people you are getting to know then this movie is for you. There’s plenty of stuff going on but in the end is a journey of survival versus rescue. There’s also plenty of interactions between personality types: young and old; planners and non planners: tossed in with different racial and ethnic backgrounds. Add some City versus country. You name it. Like in real life. And it’s never overwhelming and never becomes the central topic. You’re passing through trying to get to your destination. What keeps this movie alive for me is that stuff happens so you don’t ever get too complacent. I enjoyed it. We both enjoyed it. And I’d love to discuss it with others that watched it. Highly recommended.

They had decent characters More than a few flaws but overall a good balance Or potential for a good storyline .... except for the ridiculous forced “love story” between Wyatt and Lucy. Wyatt should had been lynched by his own team at least twice. Maybe three times. Lucy in the end had no self respect. I don’t get the 91% rotten tomatoes score. I’ll take Flynn anytime. And all of the characters. But you can keep whiny pouting Wyatt.

If you initially feel totally lost at first, hang in there. It will all make sense. Don’t even watch the trailers, just five in. Give it some time but don’t miss any details. A new movie (2019) written like an old spy thriller / who done it. Whatever you do, keep watching.

In the end... a waste of time.
