When I first watched the trailer for this film, it piqued my interest. What could go wrong with this strong cast of actors such as Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson and Thandiwe Newton. Placed together in a sci-fi genre which happens to be in my genre of fancy, I thought it would be above the bar personally.
Alas , as of all things wished, we get the forlorn. The movie was average at its best but it has so much unused potential.
The story moves at a semi slow burn, with twists and turns , a few surprises and some predictable moments. The characters felt well portrayed and the world was well built.
However, what falls short is the shallowness of it all. With such an introduction to a working ecosystem of this flooded universe, it could have been expanded better. The plot in itself tried to push the boundaries between presentation and execution fell in between the middle with neither able to reach its maximum impact.
But don't let that distract you from the weak villain portrayed by Daniel Wu , who plays a ruthless mobster that ends his scene with a whimper.
Overall, one could say that this is an interesting movie to say the least but leaves no room for any revisits.
