I pointedly chose to not enter the cinema with any preconceptions, having avoided reading reviews, or watching the trailers.
The stage show is a favourite, but I knew heavy adaptations would be required to fit this 3 hour masterpiece to the cinematic screen.
The dialogue, though brief, was unexpected and welcome... insight was quickly given to the quizzical storyline, and allowed the untutored viewer to follow the tale.
Balancing the need for dance talent, vocal genius and acting chutzpah, the casting team did an admirable job, and I was well pleased with the portrayal of all characters... even if Rebel Wilson’s personal style at times seemed a little at odds with her feline character.
I did laugh at the humorous kitty character portrayal, and definitely shed a tear at Jennifer Hudson’s Star moment as she belted out the much loved Memories ballad.
Overall I was truly impressed with the Cats musical brought to the screen, and recommend that people go in with an open mind and just accept the magical tale for what it is... a mischevious, inquisitive trip into the musical wonderland of kitties on prowl.
Cats don’t care about reviews... and in this case neither should you.
