I understand how the portrayal of the virgin Mary appears disrespectful, but that is not the virgin Mary. It is an imitation, and the movie actually warns against trusting false prophets. It's an amazing concept with a poor execution, but If you have an hour and a half to burn give it a watch.

It's a classic depiction of nature versus nurture, and you cannot help but sympathize with Carrie as she slowly breaks throughout the story
