Somehow the hype doesn't match up with the reading experience. The characters are cardboard thin and the story line is broken up by flashbacks which happen too often and makes the reader feel quite disoriented. I wouldn't recommend it to my friends

It's surprising that I have never read any of his books.i consider myslef a book lover and try to keep myself up to date as far as books and their writers are concerned I stumbled upon DD when I read his Preface to A Gathering of Friends by Ruskin Bond and was immediately struck by his style of writing which is so like the writer's whose book he wrote the Preface for. I am looking forward to DDs three novels and The House of Blue Mangoes will be my first.
