The movie is a senseless drag, just because there is utterly no rationale to what is happening in it. The protagonist’s behavior is antithetical to all rationality. What is all the fuss about? The husband slaps the wife at a party. It is a big mistake, he admits it sincerely. He is repentant, it just happened in a moment of drunkenness, when he was going through a lot of tension and frustration. He sincerely assures her that it will never ever happen again. He is ready to make up for it in any way she wants. He tries to present her a diamond watch or something, and if she didn’t want it, she could have asked for anything else. In such a situation, suppose the husband was a smoker, the wife could ask him to quit smoking. She could use it to her advantage in a million ways, and that would constitute simple rational behavior. The problem is simple, mistakes happen by all of us, we can apologize and also try make up for the damages in some sort of fair and reasonable way. The solution can be very simple too. But no, the protagonist, the heroine of the movie, doesn’t want it that way. She doesn’t want it in any way in fact. What she wants, she doesn’t know. What the movie is about, we do not know. Any story or movie is based on certain conflict, but here the point of conflict is so ridiculous and contrived that it is shocking that someone ever conceived a movie like this and made it too. What is a hundred times or a thousand times more shocking though is all the rave reviews that this movie is getting, with almost all the reviewers praising the bold stance of the woman. This movie is being portrayed as a movie about women empowerment, but in reality it is anything but that. It is not a movie about women empowerment, it is a movie about human stupidity. Although the stupidity here is concentrated in one woman – by the sheer range of her stupidity, she transcends her woman-ness, she transcends even her human-ness, and evolves into something cosmic! The astronomical range of stupidity that this movie represents is simply beyond belief. You have to see it to believe it, but even then you will not be able to believe it if you any real eyes to see, eyes that are not clouded by all the stupid reviews and the word-of-mouth that is going on about this movie. It is a wonder that something like this movie ever happened. It is a wonder too that something like our universe has ever happened. But because the universe is there, and we are there in it, we have to try to make our lives happy and meaningful by acting in logical and sensible ways, and not mess up everything for no reason at all like the protagonist in this movie does.
