Terrible game. The people who are leaving good reviews are just blinded by their love for the franchise itself; let’s look at it analytically from the “good points” people have made about this game.
- music. People are saying the music is great, it’s the same music that we’ve had for 20 years.
- scenery. I don’t get it. How can anyone think the environments are well designed, given the consoles capabilities. The game genuinely wouldn’t be hard to replicate on 64 Bit system (it looks not too dissimilar from an N64 game).
- storyline. As all pokemon games go. Create a character, get a Pokemon, get other Pokemon, collect the badges, compete in some big tournament, become the best. (People are reviewing the story and saying how great it is- it’s the same story we’ve been regurgitating for 20 years.
- difficultly curve. None existent. There’s no trial and error, there’s no figuring things out on your own, no puzzle solving, nothing. I didn’t die once during my entire first play though. Beat the game within 24 hours without dying once. It tells you where to go, what to do, it even tells you what moves to use on each enemy and what their results will be - BEFORE - you use them.
- length. Took me about a day to finish the game. Has to either take longer for the story to unfold or have more distractions and diversions within the story.
- price. Given the games hefty price tag I’d definitely advise everyone and anyone against the idea of buying this game. Not sure how IGN scores this a 9.3, standards of games must be at an all time low.
All in all I should have spent 24h buying some pain, painting my shed and watching it dry. Would have been more fun
