In my opinion, Cruella was an absolute MASTERPIECE. An art movie, albeit with a Dadaist plot line with lots of hilarious disconnects. The acting was fabulous, the costumes fantastic like no other movie I have ever see, the musical selection, composition in relation to the scenes, phenomenal. It has no significant relation to the book or earlier movies, so it is totally, happily, original.

I have attended more than half of the French Film Festivals at the Prytania in New Orleans since they started in 1989..... I have loved dozens of films I discovered through this great tradition. But I think my all time favorite discovery was "Populaire" in 2012---an old-fashioned sweet romance spiced up with great music and an endorsement of skill, excellence, and hard work. It is a beautiful story with Déborah François, Romain Duris, Bérénice Bejo, Shaun Benson, and one of my all-time, lifelong favorite French actresses, Miou-Miou.
