Binged Mindy's new Netflix show and it’s so good! It’s funny & heartwarming. I can’t even tell you how amazing it would have felt as a Pakistani woman to have a show exist with a South Asian girl in a lead role when I was growing up. It’s jolting (in a complicated way) thinking how young white girls get to grow up seeing themselves represented everywhere.One of the most powerful scenes for me was when Devi is getting coffee and is wrapped in a sari and the white couple behind her in line ask if their kid can take a pic with her for their 'gram. Mindy has such a great way of taking that very uncomfortable moment and moving us, her viewers, through it. You might just pass this off as a teen drama but watching it and realizing how groundbreaking this is to have an Indian woman (and a single mother) create and produce it is HUGE! Thankful for Mindy Kaling 🙏🏾 #RepresentationMatters
